WELCOME BACK!

It’s been 6 years and I am finally headed back to school!! My first day of school is August 25!

I knew this year would be the year everything GREAT happened! Those great things got me headed in the right direction once again!

I applied/submitted my FAFSA to five schools this year:

Harold Washington

Northeastern Illinois

Chicago State University

UIC

Prairie State

My top two were Chicago State University and Northeastern Illinois University. I was accepted to both, BUT I ended up choosing NEIU.

My Major: Physics

What Is Physics

Physics is the branch of science that focuses on the interaction of matter and energy. It is also considered the most fundamental science. Physics is all about thinking! How do things work? How and why do things react? We all want to know how the universe behaves! Well, maybe not all of us, but a lot of us are curious to know how IT all began. Consider me one of those people.

Physics is lots of research, experimenting, mathematics and observations. Through trial and error, it may give way to new ideas of understanding the world around us. Every day we are close to discovering something new and physics plays a very important role in the advancement of the universe.

Physics Degree

With a degree in physics I can pursue a career in a lot of fields:

Aerospace Engineering

Astronomy

Astrophysics

Computer Science

Engineering

Math Related jobs

Physics

Quantum Mechanics

Teaching

There are many jobs that a person with a degree in physics can choose to work in. Some require heavy use of the material you’ve learned in school, while others take on a more practical approach to what you have learned in school. Of course…you can get what you can, but I REFUSE to go down that road of working somewhere I don’t want to work…again!

My Minor

I haven’t talked to my adviser yet, but I have some ideas:

Chemistry – Study chemical processes from physics point of view.

Biology – Study life and uses physics to help understand patterns between them

Mathematics – More math means more opportunities, numbers are everywhere

Computer Science – Apply physics and other data to computer models

I’m not sure which ones are a possibility right now or if they are even necessary for me to study. I’ll let my adviser help with that.

Career Goals

What do I want to do with my degree in Physics? Let’s see…

Astronomy – a natural science, is the study of celestial objects (such as stars, galaxies, planets, moons, asteroids, comets and nebulae) and processes (such as supernovae explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cosmic microwave background radiation), the physics, chemistry, and evolution of such objects and processes, and more generally all phenomena that originate outside the atmosphere of Earth. A related but distinct subject, physical cosmology, is concerned with studying the Universe as a whole

Sounds like a dream! I want to study the known and unknown in space! Search for answers and more questions! Stargazing would be my 9 to 5…that wouldn’t feel like a career at all!

Aerospace Engineering – the primary field of engineering concerned with the development of aircraft and spacecraft. It is divided into two major and overlapping branches: aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering.

In this field I would want to work with spacecraft. Designing satellites or other useful spacecraft for studying and observing space.

Biophysics –an interdisciplinary science that applies the approaches and methods of physics to study biological systems. Biophysics covers all scales of biological organization, from molecular to organismic and populations. Biophysical research shares significant overlap with biochemistry, nanotechnology, bio-engineering, computational biology and systems biology.

A stretch, but I am very interested in what makes us, Us! Also, how can we make us better! I am really interested in evolutionary biophysics and bio-engineering. Why aren’t we SUPERHUMAN yet!

My Journey

It all sounds simple. It all sounds so well thought out.

But…

…this is real life. Anything can happen.

6 years ago I didn’t have enough money to continue school. I had just completed 3 years at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, studying Architecture, and then…school was no more. At that time, I guess I asked for it. I didn’t really want to be in school. I knew I didn’t want to study architecture. I had my mind set on starting a business. What kind of business? I had no idea! School was not in my thoughts, but I didn’t drop out. I would’ve continued if my financial situation was better. Unfortunately, eh…

From 2010 to 2016…really! Turns out it was the break I needed to figure out my next steps. I wish it didn’t take that long though.

During that time, I was in an out of some basic jobs. Jobs I hated! Jobs I disliked! Jobs that weren’t for me. I didn’t think I would ever return to school. It felt like I was doomed to live the underpaid 9 to 5, with no degree, working at a job that served no real purpose for myself or the world.

I only enjoyed one job during my six-year break from school. Guess what that job was…?

I was a caregiver! Yes, I worked with a diabetic veteran who lost his lower limbs. He was very smart and wealthy and helped me put a lot of things into perspective during the short time I was able to work with him. He had 5 master’s degrees! 5! He was also a professor of photography. I really wish I kept a notebook with me when I was with him. Lots and lots of knowledge! I invested in my first stocks and was going to surprise him with the news the following work week, but he passed away that weekend. I never forgot about his stories, his advice and his accomplishments.

BEST JOB I EVER HAD!

Now that I am back in school, I finally have control over my life. IT FEELS GREAT! I wake up happier. Go to sleep happier. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time! AAAAAAAAHH!

I hope nothing gets in the way this time. I want to finish! I want my degree! When they say it’s never too late…it really is never too late. Unless, it just really is too late. I mean, it’s only too late in the event you want to be too late or you just…nevermind…JUST GO!! GO BACK!!

Let’s all get educated!

Let’s all do what we want to do!

And after we all graduate…we can cry when our student loan payments are due. #HATE

Thanks Wikipedia.

Photography

I still haven't been shooting. I miss it. I need some place to go. I need to find some place in Chicago. I can settle for nature in city settings. It's not the same though. I've been spoiled by better, but too much time is going by and I miss it! AH!

WHAT IS THIS SITE FOR!?
